MPE Safety audits St Vinnies 2

MPE Safety were appointed by and have completed the Work Health and Safety , health check on St Vincent de Paul Society , safety management system for the 17 Op Shops in the Brisbane Diocese.

Our 21 criteria audit is a comprehensive, independent and easy to digest report.

These criteria were addressed:

  1. Emergency Planning
    To ensure emergency situations that may arise have been addressed and that controls are in place and are adequate, including fire equipment and evacuations. Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011, Chapter .3, part 3.2and Division 4, section 43 and schedule 16.
  2. Communication and Consultation
    To ensure relevant information, instruction and communication is displayed / communicated to all employees in accordance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011, Part 5 and Work Health and Safety Consultation, Co-operation and Co-ordination Code of Practice ‘2011.
  3. Incident Reporting and Accident Investigation
    To ensure incidents have been recorded and investigated to comply with Work Health and Safety Act 2011 Part 3 , section 38 and AS4801.
  4. First Aid
    To ensure first aid controls are in place, are adequate and comply with Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011, Chapter 3, part 3.2, Division 3 section 42 and First Aid code of practice 2004.
  5. Housekeeping
    To ensure housekeeping issues have been addressed and comply with Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011, Chapter 3, part 3..2 section 40.
  6. Walkways and Access
    To ensure grounds (walkways / floors) and surrounding issues have been addressed and comply with Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 chapter 3, part 3.2, division 2 section 41.
  7. Gas Bottles and Pressure Vessels
    To ensure the handling of gas bottles has been addressed and comply with Australian Standard 2030:5:2009 The verification, filling, inspection, testing and maintenance of cylinders for the transport and storage of compressed gasses.
  8. Ergonomics and Manual Handling
    To ensure that controls are in place to prevent or minimise muscular skeletal disorders arising from manual tasks in accordance with the Hazardous Manual Tasks Code of Practice and the National Code of Practice for the Prevention of Musculoskeletal Disorders From Performing Manual Tasks at Work. General attention to Work Health & Safety regulations 2011, Chapter 4, part 4.2.
  9. Storage and Racking
    To ensure storage issues have been addressed and comply with the Hazardous Manual Tasks in accordance with the Guidance notes AS4084:2012- steel storage racking.
  10. Signs
    To ensure sign issues have been addressed and comply with Australian Standards AS 1319: Safety Signs for the Occupational Environment. Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011, Chapter 4, part 4.3 , section 68 and Australian Standard: 2865-2009.
  11. Personal Protective Equipment and Clothing
    To ensure PPE issues have been addressed and comply with Australian Standards, and Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011, Chapter .3, part 3.2, division 5.
  12. Hazardous Chemicals
    To ensure chemicals used on site are used as advised in and compliant with the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011, Chapter 7 and Managing Risks of Hazardous Chemicals in the Workplace Code of Practice 2013.
  13. Office Environment
    To ensure office workers issues have been addressed, reduce exposure to a variety of risks, and comply with Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011.Chapter 3.
  14. Work Areas and Machinery
    To ensure plant is maintained to ensure safe use in accordance with the Plant Code of Practice 2005 and that all plant that is required to be registered, and that all certificates of compliance are up to date and comply with the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011, part 16, subdivision 3, section 284 code of practice preserved.
  15. Mobile Plant and Equipment
    To ensure plant is maintained to ensure safe use in accordance with the Plant Code of Practice 2005 and that all plant that is required to be registered is registered and that all certificates of compliance are up to date. (Plant includes items such as industrial trucks; Australian Standard 1763:1985 Ensure compliance with Work Health and Safety Regulations 2011, Chapter 5, section 215.
  16. Transport and Logistics
    To ensure transporting operations of the business comply with the Transport Operations (Road Use) Act 1995, Transport Operations (Road Use Management – Fatigue Management) Regulation 2008.
  17. General Lighting
    To ensure lighting at the workplace complies with the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011, Chapter 3, part 3.2 section 40(d) and guidelines for lighting and the visual environment, outlined in Australian Standards 1680:2006.
  18. Ladders, Safe Working Platforms and Working At Height
    To ensure ladder and safe platform issues have been addressed and comply with the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 part 4.4, Australian Standard 1657: Fixed platforms, walkways, stairwells and ladders: Design, construction and installation and Australian Standard 1892: Portable Ladders. Managing the Risk of Falls at Workplaces Code of Practice 2011.
  19. Sanitation and Amenities
    To ensure sanitation & amenities issues have been addressed and comply with Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 and Managing the Work Environment and Facilities Code of Practice 2011.
  20. Security
    To ensure security issues have been addressed.
  21. Training and Competency
    To ensure employees, contractors and visitors are appropriately trained and competency evidence is established to ensure compliance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011.

The outcomes were revealing to St Vinnies , who have implemented remedies and our recommendations ,this interaction has revealed to MPE the excellent work that St Vincent de Paul Society carries out in society.
